Hospice Foster Program - "Fospice"

Hospice foster programs give senior, terminally ill, or medically fragile animals something every pet deserves: comfort, safety, and love at the end of life. Instead of spending their final days in a shelter environment, these animals can rest in a quiet home where their pain is managed, their routines are gentle, and their needs are met with patience and dignity.

These programs are also important because they help shelters and rescue groups provide more humane, individualized care to animals who may not be adoptable in the traditional sense. Hospice foster homes free up space and resources while ensuring that vulnerable pets are not overlooked. Just as importantly, they remind communities that every animal has value, no matter their age or prognosis.

The volunteers who open their homes to hospice fosters make this work possible. Their willingness to provide daily care, comfort, and companionship is an extraordinary act of compassion. Although the role can be emotionally difficult, these volunteers give animals peace, kindness, and the experience of being deeply cared for in their final chapter—and that gift is immeasurable.

Care provided to Hospice fosters for:

advanced age, kidney disease, heart complications, diabetes, progressive retinal atrophy, malnutrition, cancer and chronic viral infections.

(We anticipate this list will grow as we as we meet new fosters)
